TikTok has recently begun rolling out its new “Photo Comment” feature in Europe as well. Although the feature has been available for some time in the United States and Asia, its rollout in Europe has been gradual and on a user-by-user basis. Most European users began gaining access to this feature in late 2024 and early 2025, and the rollout is still ongoing.
Image comments bring a whole new level of vibrancy to TikTok’s comment sections. Interaction, which previously relied solely on text and emojis, now expands to include visual elements. For example, you can respond to videos with a funny meme, your own photo, or even an image illustrating what the video is about. This change makes commenting significantly more versatile and interactive.
TikTok has also officially stated that not all European users may have this feature available yet. This is due to the “rollout” process. A rollout means that major apps generally do not release new features to all users at once. Instead, the feature is gradually rolled out to smaller user groups or specific regions. This allows the company to test the feature’s functionality, gather feedback, and fix any bugs before a wider release. This also helps manage server load, as millions of users aren’t able to try out the new feature all at once. That’s why it may take a little while before the feature becomes available to everyone.
How can you access this feature?
Here’s how to enable this feature if it’s already been rolled out to your account:
- Open the TikTok app.
- Go to the comments section of any video.
- At the bottom right of the comment field, next to the text input area, you should see a small icon (a camera or photo symbol). If you see it, the feature is available to you! Tap the icon to select a photo from your device’s gallery to add to your comment.
If you don’t see the icon in the comment section, try updating the app to the latest version from the app store (App Store or Google Play). If updating the app doesn’t help, you’ll just have to wait for it to roll out. This is likely part of a rollout, and the feature will appear in your account over time.
