Photo: Helmi Kantola’s ALBUM
Finnish YouTuber Helmi Kantola traveled to Norway earlier this year, to the well-known Hesdalen Valley, where unidentified light phenomena have been reported for decades. During the trip, Kantola’s camera captured an unexplained, curving streak of light that sparked wonder—and curiosity.
The camera was left recording overnight
Helmi explains that the idea for the nighttime footage came to her even before she left:
“Even before the trip, I’d thought of leaving the camera out overnight to see if anything would end up on film. Of course, we went there hoping to see something, but even without that, it would have been a memorable adventure!”
The photo shows an asymmetrical streak of light that curves sharply. The photo was taken using time-lapse photography, and the exposure time is listed as 30 seconds. The phenomenon wasn’t observed on-site; it wasn’t discovered until later:
"My photographer, Markus Kareinen, noticed the light phenomenon while editing the video about a week after the trip. Since we couldn’t find an explanation, we were really excited!"
UFO researcher says the phenomenon is unclear
Someuutiset asked Heikki Kulju, chairman of the Finnish UFO Researchers Association, for a comment; he assessed the light phenomenon based on a still image.
According to Kulju, the phenomenon was likely an unclear or unidentified object, but not yet a significant UFO sighting:
"The photo does not show any kind of craft. From a UFO research perspective, this type of image is not very significant."
He stated that it is neither a meteor nor a satellite reflection, and the final explanation could lie, for example, in reflections from the camera lens or the optics.
An Enthusiastic Response—and Perhaps a Sequel?
According to Helmi, his followers have been excited about the sightings, and the topic has sparked a lot of discussion:
“I’ve received interesting comments from viewers about their own UFO sightings and thoughts. I haven’t yet found an explanation for that image in the comments.”
Helmi doesn’t plan to stop investigating these phenomena here:
"I’m definitely really interested in UFOs! I’ve been thinking that it would be super cool to go to Roswell to investigate next year."
Someuutiset will continue to follow this story. At the time of this article’s publication, Helmi’s video is available on her YouTube channel.
Below is a still image from the video, in which the light phenomenon curves across the sky as a clearly visible streak of light:
