On Sunday, April 6, at 5:42 p.m., on Suokumaantie in Lappeenranta, the boom of a forestry machine struck power lines, causing the lines to break and resulting in a medium-sized wildfire. According to rescue service officials, the fire covered an area of about five square meters and was quickly brought under control by the machine operator using a portable fire extinguisher before the rescue department arrived.

Juuso Punnonen, Chief of Rescue Services for South Karelia, says that although the fire was of moderate size, the situation did not cause any significant damage. Two units were dispatched from the fire department to the scene, but the spread of the fire was quickly and safely contained.
